President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has praised Jimoh Ibrahim for his election as Chairman of the United Nations General Assembly Fifth Committee on Budget and Administration. Ibrahim serves as Nigeria's Permanent Representative to the UN.

In a statement released by Presidential Spokesman Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu noted the timing was significant. He said the UN faces critical financial challenges and institutional reforms.

According to the President, Ibrahim's election validates his extensive background. That background spans public service, diplomacy, business leadership, and governance.

Tinubu highlighted Ibrahim's work in the Nigerian Senate on budget matters. He also referenced his role as Chairman of Inter-Parliamentary Relations.

"Your previous roles in the private sector and public service distinctly equip you to provide the steady, strategic leadership required for this important responsibility," the President noted. He underscored that Ibrahim's experience made him suited for the post.

The President emphasised Ibrahim's credentials as a respected legal scholar. His expertise spans international taxation and business administration, Tinubu added.

Ibrahim has demonstrated intellectual capability across global governance matters, according to the statement. His knowledge of financial systems and fiscal management proved valuable, Tinubu said.

The President expressed confidence in Ibrahim's abilities moving forward. He linked success domestically to what he expects from the diplomat at the UN.

Tinubu believes Ibrahim's commitment to excellence will justify his selection as Nigeria's UN envoy. He hopes the ambassador will represent Nigeria effectively on the Fifth Committee.

Nigeria expects Ibrahim to advance the broader objectives of the United Nations. His work should reflect well on the country, Tinubu concluded.
