President Bola Tinubu deliberately appointed northerners to key positions in his government.
This strategic decision was highlighted by the National Security Adviser, Malam Nuhu Ribadu, during a lecture titled “Navigating The Maze: Addressing Multi-Dimensional Insecurity Challenges In Northern Nigeria” at Usmanu Danfordiyo University, Sokoto.
Ribadu emphasized that President Tinubu’s appointments were made with the intention of squarely addressing the region’s problems, particularly those related to insecurity and other socio-economic issues.
Among the key positions filled by northerners are those in security, defense, agriculture, education, health, and foreign affairs. This move reflects President Tinubu’s commitment to turning around the fortunes of Northern Nigeria.
The lecture also shed light on the alarming poverty index in the region and the need to address the multi-dimensional insecurity challenges.
Ribadu highlighted the government’s achievements in tackling insecurity, citing cases of bandit commanders killed and tens of thousands of kidnapped victims rescued without paying any ransom.
He also noted the absence of any unresolved cases of student abductions or organized terrorism attacks since the new government took office.
Ribadu explained that the government is adopting counterinsurgency strategies aimed at winning the hearts and minds of the local population, isolating insurgents from their support base, and preventing the recruitment of new members.
These strategies are part of President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which focuses on infrastructural development, job creation, education, healthcare provision, and efforts to tackle poverty and inequality.
President Bola Tinubu’s deliberate appointments of northerners to key positions, coupled with his government’s counterinsurgency strategies, represent a concerted effort to address the multi-dimensional insecurity challenges in Northern Nigeria and pave the way for a more secure and prosperous future for the region.
