Soldiers of the Nigerian Army stopped a suspected terrorist attack after uncovering a command-wire improvised explosive device buried beneath a road in Kanguri village, Guzamala Local Government Area of Borno State. Security analyst Zagazola Makama reported the discovery on X on Friday night.
Troops from the 149 Battalion found the buried explosive at about 3:00 p.m. on Friday while protecting a team from the Mine Risk Group in Maiduguri. The MRG team was heading to retrieve two trucks destroyed in a Boko Haram IED blast on July 4 when they spotted the device beneath the road.
The Explosive Ordnance Disposal team attached to the 149 Battalion safely recovered the command-wire IED without complications. The operation caused no casualties and damaged no military equipment.
The escort and recovery mission remained underway when Makama shared the report. He emphasised that the find shows the persistent danger posed by roadside explosives planted by terrorist groups across the North East.
According to the analyst, soldiers continue conducting clearance operations and route security patrols to shield military personnel and civilians travelling on major roads in the region. The recovery effort underscores the military's commitment to maintaining safe passage in areas threatened by insurgent activity.
