Three House members abandoned the APC on Wednesday. They split between two opposition parties instead.

Rabilu Bala represents Jama'are/Itas-Gadau in Bauchi State. He switched to the Peoples Redemption Party.

Speaker Tajudeen Abbas announced Bala's exit on the chamber floor. According to Bala's letter, internal party conflicts pushed him out.

Bala said he needed a better platform for his constituents. His new party, he believes, would serve them more effectively.

Abubakar Zango also quit on the same day. He represents Yola North/Yola South/Girei in Adamawa State.

Zango chose the African Democratic Congress for his new home. He told lawmakers his conscience guided the decision.

In his letter, Zango cited national interest as his reason. He promised to keep working hard in the legislature.

Abdullahi El-Rasheed made the third defection. He represents Dukku/Nafada in Gombe State.

El-Rasheed also joined the African Democratic Congress. His departure marked another blow to the ruling party's numbers.

All three announcements came Wednesday at plenary. This happened just one day after lawmakers returned from Sallah break.
