Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has urged members of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) to take the lead in shaping public perception as a tool for unity, development, and effective governance.

Speaking through Mr. Charles Aniagwu, State Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, during the 2025 NIPR Week in Uyo, Oborevwori emphasized the power of narrative in an age of misinformation.

“Good governance must be complemented by good communication. If we don’t tell our stories, others will tell them for us—often inaccurately,” he warned.

He challenged PR professionals to rise above partisan lines and focus on truth-driven storytelling, countering propaganda with verified facts to build public trust and national cohesion.

The event’s keynote speaker, Dr. Omoniyi Ibietan, Chair of the African Public Relations Association (APRA), outlined transformative trends shaping the future of PR—highlighting the need for authenticity, ethical standards, and careful use of AI.

“Don’t blindly trust AI content,” Ibietan cautioned. “Use fact-checking tools like Google Reverse Image Search and Dubawa to verify and protect credibility.”

The 2025 NIPR Week convened top voices in media and communication, reinforcing the vital role of PR in democratic growth and national identity.
