Telcos Apologize for Service Outage, Assure Users of Ongoing Repairs

Telecommunications operators in Nigeria have issued an apology to users for the recent service outages caused by damage to multiple submarine cables along the West African Coast.

The outages have impacted data and fixed telecom services in several West African countries, including Nigeria, Ghana, and Ivory Coast.

In a statement released by the Chairman of the Association of Licensed Telecommunications Operators of Nigeria (ALTON), Gbenga Adebayo, and the Executive Secretary of ALTON, Gbolahan Awonuga, the operators assured users of communication services that repair processes were ongoing by the responsible international service providers.

The damage occurred somewhere in Ivory Coast and Senegal, with an attendant disruption in Portugal.

The issue has affected major undersea cables such as the West African Cable System (WACS) and African Coast to Europe (ACE) in the West Coast route from Europe, as well as SAT3 and MainOne.

These disruptions have led to a decline in data and internet service delivery by some of the members of ALTON.

Adebayo expressed regret for any inconveniences caused by the damage to the submarine fiber optics cable on the international waterways and sought the continuous understanding of users on behalf of its members.

As the repair processes continue, telecommunications operators in Nigeria are committed to restoring full service as soon as possible and ensuring that users can resume their normal communication activities.

The operators are working closely with international service providers to expedite the repair process and minimize the impact on their customers.
