Olorogun Albert Akpomudje, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria and President General of the Government College Ughelli Old Boys Association (GCUOBA), urged President Bola Tinubu to address the twin issues of insecurity and power to ensure food security in Nigeria.
Akpomudje, who is also the Otota of ancient Olomu Kingdom, emphasized that illegal occupation of farmlands by killer herdsmen has severely impacted the country’s agricultural production, leading to food insecurity and rising cost of living.
The legal expert believes that tackling insecurity and improving electricity supply will have a multiplier effect on the nation’s economy.
He said, “If President Tinubu can tackle the illegal occupation of our lands by killer herdsmen and improve our power generation, these problems we face will disappear naturally.”
According to Akpomudje, insecurity remains a persistent issue in Nigeria, with the Uwherun axis in Delta State still being occupied by killer herdsmen, preventing people from farming.
The same situation is seen in the Olomu Kingdom, where residents fear for their safety.
The President of GCUOBA stressed that addressing these issues is crucial for the country’s development.
He pointed out that improved security would allow people to return to their farms without fear, while increased power generation would help companies to increase manufacturing and production.
As Nigeria continues to grapple with food insecurity and economic challenges, the call for President Tinubu to prioritize the resolution of insecurity and power issues is a timely reminder of the importance of addressing these fundamental concerns to ensure the nation’s progress.
