Super Falcons head coach Justine Madugu has warned his players to brace for a stern test as they hunt for an 11th continental crown at the 2026 Women's Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco. The defending champions kick off their campaign against Malawi's Scorchers at the Al Madina Stadium in Rabat on Tuesday.
Madugu knows rivals will be hungry to dethrone his side. "Now that we are champions, every other team will want to draw you down," he told BBC Sport.
The tactician acknowledged the challenge ahead won't be straightforward. "It's not going to be easy.
We are quite aware of that and we are going to be fully ready," he added.
Nigeria's quest for a record-extending 11th title comes as the continental showpiece got underway in Morocco on Sunday. The Super Falcons remain Africa's most successful women's football team and will look to extend their dominance in the competition.
Madugu's squad is determined to retain the trophy despite the mounting pressure from other African nations eyeing the prize. The team believes they have what it takes to overcome Malawi and progress in the tournament.
