“SSANU Urges Nigerian Government to Pay Four Months of Withheld Salaries”

The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) has called on the Federal Government to urgently pay four months of withheld salaries to its members.

The Chairman of the Federal University Lokoja, Adedeji Suarau, made this appeal during a press conference on Thursday, February 22, 2024.

Suarau mentioned that the government had recently paid the withheld salaries of university lecturers, and it would be fair for the government to also pay SSANU members.

The Federal Government had withheld four months of salaries for SSANU members who participated in a strike in 2022.

Despite efforts to get the salaries paid during the previous administration of President Muhammed Buhari, the issue remained unresolved.

However, with the recent plea from President Tinubu to governors to ensure that all salary arrears are paid to alleviate economic hardship, SSANU members remain hopeful.

The call for the payment of these withheld salaries comes at a time when the Nigerian economy is facing challenges, and the prompt resolution of this issue could significantly contribute to improving the financial situation of the affected SSANU members.

As the Nigerian Government considers the request, it remains to be seen if the plea from SSANU will be addressed, and if the four months of withheld salaries will be released to its members.

This situation highlights the importance of maintaining open communication and collaboration between the government and various organizations to ensure the well-being of all Nigerian citizens.
