Soludo: No Salary, No Official Car for Wife in Two Years as Anambra Governor

In an event marking two years of his administration, Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State revealed that he has not received any salary since assuming office, and his wife, the First Lady of Anambra State, does not have an official car.

The event, held at the International Convention Center in Awka on Sunday, March 17, 2024, highlighted the Governor’s commitment to cutting costs and not borrowing for the last two years.

Governor Soludo emphasized that his administration has deliberately executed the most austere measure government ever by reducing expenses and not borrowing, despite receiving only 25% of the real or dollar terms of what was received in the past.

He explained that this decision was made to prioritize resources and direct them to essential projects for the people of the state.

During his speech, Soludo mentioned that he is not taking any salary from the state government and that his wife still drives his personal vehicles as the First Lady does not have an official car.

He also stated that if he ever decides to borrow, he will show the people of Anambra the projects the loan was used for and how those projects would repay the loan.

The two-year anniversary celebration of Soludo’s administration was marked with a Pontifical Mass of Thanksgiving led by the Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Nnewi, Most Rev. Jonas-Benson Okoye, and the Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Awka, Most Rev. Paulinus Ezeokafor.

Soludo’s commitment to cutting costs and reducing waste in governance has allowed his administration to prioritize the construction of hospitals, roads, and schools in areas that were previously neglected.

He assured the people of Anambra that any kobo entrusted in his hand as the governor would be accounted for.

The Governor’s dedication to fiscal responsibility and transparency sets a strong example for other state leaders, as he continues to prioritize the needs of the people and the development of the state without resorting to unnecessary borrowing.
