In a stunning blow to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Delta State, 84 members in Ukwuani Local Government Area have resigned en masse, citing internal betrayal, systemic marginalization, and deep dissatisfaction with the party’s leadership structure.
The mass exodus, confirmed in a jointly signed resignation letter dated Friday, April 11, 2025, marks one of the most coordinated and sweeping political walkouts in recent years. The defectors, all members of the Ned Nwoko Mandate, span all 10 wards in the LGA—underscoring the scale and structure of the revolt.
In the letter addressed to the PDP Ukwuani LGA Chairman, the former party members denounced what they described as entrenched factionalism, exclusionary practices, and the elevation of political opportunists over loyal, longtime members.
“Those who joined the party just a few years ago with little or no contribution are now elevated above us who have toiled for over two decades to build this party,” the statement read. “This is no longer politics; it’s betrayal. Enough is enough.”
The move aligns squarely with Senator Ned Nwoko’s political crusade under the All Progressives Congress (APC), as he continues his mission to dismantle PDP’s 25-year stronghold in Delta State. Since defecting to the APC, Nwoko has not only stirred grassroots momentum but also attracted waves of high-profile and rank-and-file defectors across the state.
Political analysts say this coordinated resignation from Ukwuani is not merely symbolic—it’s a clear sign that Nwoko’s influence is tearing through the PDP’s traditional support base, especially in Delta North.
This latest development follows similar mass defections in Aniocha North, Ika North East, and Oshimili South, further signalling a dangerous unravelling within the PDP.
As of the time of filing this report, neither the local nor state PDP leadership has responded to the bombshell resignation. But political watchers warn that if the party remains silent or reactive, it risks sliding into an existential crisis ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Senator Nwoko, now seen as the face of the APC’s revival in Delta, appears to be successfully converting internal PDP discontent into a well-organized political rebellion.
The race to 2027 is no longer on the horizon—it has officially begun.
