Vice President Kashim Shettima has backed swift passage of a governance bill before Nigeria's lawmakers. He made the commitment during a meeting with officials from ICSAN at the Presidential Villa.

Uto Ukpanah, who leads the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators of Nigeria, headed the delegation. She visited Abuja to discuss the institute's work on corporate governance and ethical leadership.

Ukpanah told Shettima about the Chartered Governance Institute of Nigeria Bill awaiting consideration. She said the legislation would strengthen governance standards and align Nigeria with global best practices.

The proposed law aims to boost professionalism in governance across public and private sectors. It would also improve regulatory frameworks throughout the country.

Shettima responded positively to the request. According to him, governance remains critical to national development and institutional strengthening.

During the visit, Ukpanah also briefed the Vice President on ICSAN's secretariat project in Lagos. Construction of the facility is currently underway.

She said the building would serve multiple purposes once completed. It'll function as a hub for training, research and professional development in governance matters.

Ukpanah appealed for Federal Government backing to finish the project. She noted it would enhance ICSAN's ability to drive governance reforms across Nigeria.

Shettima commended ICSAN for six decades of work in corporate governance. He highlighted the institute's role in promoting professionalism and institutional integrity nationwide.

He promised continued government support for institutions strengthening governance structures. In his words, such efforts foster sustainable economic growth.

Both parties discussed potential collaboration between ICSAN and government bodies. These talks centered on advancing governance reforms and improving institutional effectiveness.

ICSAN stands among Nigeria's most respected professional organizations for governance practitioners. The institute is currently marking 60 years of contributions to boardroom practice and compliance.

Over the past six decades, it has shaped corporate governance in Nigeria. The body continues advocating for better institutional leadership and transparency standards.
