Shell Nigeria Gas and Oyo State Government Sign Agreement to Boost Industrialization and Economic Growth

Shell Nigeria Gas (SNG) and the Oyo State Government have signed a ground-breaking agreement to develop a gas supply and distribution infrastructure in Oyo State.
This project aims to deliver natural gas to industrial and commercial users across the state, with the first gas expected in the fourth quarter of 2025.
The agreement was signed on May 3, 2024, and is expected to significantly boost economic activities and industrialization in the region.
SNG, a subsidiary of Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria Limited (SPDC), will build and operate the gas distribution network for a 20-year period.
The project will initially involve the construction of a 15km pipeline route, with plans to expand and deliver up to 60 million standard cubic feet of gas per day across the state.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde expressed his excitement about the partnership, describing the project as a catalyst for development in the state.
He emphasized the government’s commitment to driving innovation and industrialization through partnerships with companies and organizations like Shell Nigeria Gas.
SNG Managing Director, Ralph Gbobo, highlighted the significance of the agreement for SNG and Oyo State, stating that the project would boost economic activities and create job opportunities by supplying industries and manufacturers with natural gas.
Gbobo also mentioned that the initiative aligns with Nigeria’s Decade of Gas initiative, which aims to drive progress through natural gas availability across the country.
The Chairman of Shell Companies in Nigeria, Osagie Okunbor, emphasized the importance of partnership in driving progress in Nigeria.
He noted that the agreement is a testament to Shell’s commitment to providing more and cleaner energy solutions for commercial and industrial customers in the country.
The gas distribution project is expected to have a transformative effect on the industrialization drive of the Oyo State Government and will help to increase internally generated revenue and create more job opportunities.
With Shell Nigeria Gas’s expertise and the support of the Oyo State Government, this initiative is poised to significantly contribute to Nigeria’s economic growth and energy security.
