Zamfara State lawmakers voted to extend the suspension of seven colleagues for another legislative session on Thursday.
Speaker Bilyaminu Ismail Moriki presided over the plenary session where the decision passed unanimously.
The seven suspended members face ongoing investigations for misconduct and breaches of House Standing Orders.
Majority Leader Bello Muhammad Mazawajje moved the motion, with Ibrahim Garba Liman providing support.
Mazawajje explained that active court proceedings justified the extension. "The ongoing litigation regarding the matter necessitates a formal extension of the disciplinary action pending judicial determination," he noted.
Speaker Moriki's spokesperson, Bello Madaro Kurya, confirmed the action in a statement released Friday morning.
The suspended lawmakers are Bashir Abubakar, Bashir Aliyu, Nasiru Abdullahi, Faruku Musa Dosara, Amiru Ahmad Keta, Ibrahim T. Tukur, and Bashir Bello.
Their initial suspension period had expired before the extension was approved. Court processes remain ongoing in the matter.
