Senator Theodore Orji Denies Receiving Pension from Abia State Government

Senator Theodore Orji, the former Governor of Abia State and ex-Senator from Abia Central, has denied receiving any money from the Abia State Government as pension after he left office in 2015.

This statement comes after the Abia State House of Assembly abolished the Governor’s and Deputy Governor’s Pensions Law.

Senator Orji made this clear in an exclusive chat with Vanguard, stating that he had not received any pension as a former Governor and had never asked for it.

He explained that he moved straight to the Senate after leaving office and did not request any pension.

The Abia State House of Assembly recently passed a Bill entitled “H.A.B 11: The Abia State Governor’s and Deputy Governor’s Pensions Law Repeal Bill 2024,” which was sponsored by the Majority Leader and member representing Arochukwu state constituency, Hon. Okoro Uchenna Kalu.

Senator Orji acknowledged that the House of Assembly has the constitutional powers to review any laws of the state.

Senator Orji’s former Chief Liaison Officer, Hon. Ifeanyi Umere, confirmed that the former Governor has not received any pension since leaving office and has no interest in it.

He also clarified that Senator Orji was not part of the scrapped pension law and had not received any pension from Governor Okezie Ikpeazu.

As a statesman, Senator Orji emphasized that he has not received any pension from the Abia State Government and has not asked for any either.

This recent development sheds light on the issue of pensions for former Governors and their deputies in Abia State, and it remains to be seen how the state’s political landscape will be affected by this change.
