In a strategic move to accelerate the completion of the Ogwashi-Uku Dam and enhance regional development, Senator Prince Ned Nwoko, representing Delta North in the National Assembly, recently hosted the leadership of the Benin-Owena River Basin Development Authority (BORBDA) at his Abuja residence.
The meeting, led by BORBDA Managing Director, Mr. Femi Adekanbi, focused on expediting water resource projects, with special attention to the Ogwashi-Uku Dam—an initiative crucial to agricultural sustainability and water supply for over 60 communities in Delta North.
Senator Nwoko underscored the importance of the dam in transforming the region, emphasizing its potential to drive irrigation, boost farming activities, and provide potable water to local communities. "The Ogwashi-Uku Dam is key to unlocking economic and social benefits for our people. Its completion will significantly improve agricultural productivity and overall quality of life," he stated.
He commended the efforts of the Benin-Owena Development Authority and urged for greater urgency in completing the project. He also assured that he would work to secure the necessary funding and policy support to ensure the dam’s timely execution.
Mr. Adekanbi, in his remarks, acknowledged Senator Nwoko’s unwavering commitment to regional development and provided updates on the dam’s progress. He assured that BORBDA would prioritize its completion, recognizing its critical role in the socio-economic advancement of Delta North.
The meeting also touched on the Amukpe Dam and other water-related projects within the Benin-Owena River Basin, covering Delta, Edo, Ondo, and Ekiti States. However, Senator Nwoko made it clear that the Ogwashi-Uku Dam remains a top priority due to its strategic importance to the people of Delta North.
Both parties reaffirmed their commitment to collaboration, ensuring that water and agricultural infrastructure projects meet the needs of the communities they serve.
The session ended with a shared resolve to accelerate efforts toward the completion of the Ogwashi-Uku Dam, reinforcing Senator Nwoko’s vision for a more prosperous and self-sustaining Delta North.
