In a powerful tribute to his enduring legacy in cultural advocacy and national unity, Senator Ned Nwoko has been honoured as a Cultural Ambassador by the National Commission for Museums and Monuments (NCMM).

The prestigious recognition was bestowed during the Commission’s International Museum Day celebration held on May 20, 2025, at the China Cultural Center. Themed “The Future of Museums in Rapidly Changing Communities,” the event spotlighted transformative voices in heritage preservation—and Senator Nwoko emerged as a leading figure.

Representing Delta North Senatorial District, Senator Nwoko has long championed cultural preservation and heritage tourism. His iconic country home, Mount Ned, has become a landmark destination, embodying his dedication to showcasing Nigeria’s diverse heritage.

Currently Chairing the Senate Committee on Reparations and Repatriation, Senator Nwoko is at the forefront of national efforts to retrieve looted Nigerian artifacts from museums and collections worldwide. His campaign reflects a deep belief in reconnecting the past with the present, ensuring that history informs the future.

Beyond his cultural pursuits, Nwoko is also celebrated for his groundbreaking 2020 expedition to the South Pole, marking him as the first black man to undertake such a feat—an adventure tied to his global malaria eradication campaign.

Accepting the award on his behalf, his Special Adviser on Media, Juliet Ugah, conveyed the senator’s gratitude and reiterated his call for Nigeria to embrace cultural diplomacy as a strategic national asset.

“In today’s global landscape, soft power is a tool for influence. Nigeria must actively promote its cultural identity through synergy between the culture, foreign affairs, and creative industry ministries,” she said.

This latest recognition solidifies Senator Nwoko’s reputation as not just a lawmaker but a cultural visionary dedicated to preserving Nigeria’s soul for generations to come.
