Senator Ned Munir Nwoko has expressed appreciation to President Bola Tinubu for officially flagging off the construction of the access road to the Second Niger Bridge linking Delta and Anambra States (Phase 2A, Contract No. 8792) and the reconstruction of the Asaba-Benin Expressway.
In a letter addressed to the president and made available to journalists on Sunday, Nwoko described the projects as “strategically significant, not only for the South-South and South-East regions but for the entire country.” According to the senator, the prioritization of these infrastructural developments underscores the administration’s commitment to economic integration, national cohesion, and infrastructure renewal. “The Asaba-Benin Expressway has long been a source of concern due to its deteriorating state, causing immense hardship for commuters and businesses,” Nwoko said. “As the senator representing Delta North, I have consistently engaged the Federal Ministry of Works on this issue, advocating for urgent intervention. I formally wrote to the Honourable Minister of Works, Sen. (Engr.) David Nweze Umahi emphasises the need for immediate action. It is gratifying that our collective efforts, supported by your administration’s responsiveness, have yielded tangible results with the project duly included in the national budget.” Nwoko further highlighted the Senate’s recognition of the dire state of federal roads nationwide, stating that the chamber, under the leadership of Senate President Godswill Akpabio, has passed a resolution mandating their maintenance and rehabilitation as a matter of national priority. “The Senate Committee on Works, where I serve as a member, has firmly advocated for the reconstruction and revitalization of national roads to boost economic activities, reduce accidents, and improve transportation efficiency across the country,” he added. Acknowledging the fiscal constraints facing the nation, Nwoko expressed gratitude that the South-South region was among the first to benefit from this critical intervention. He commended President Tinubu’s vision for sustainable development and economic expansion, noting that these projects would enhance connectivity between Delta, Anambra, Edo, and beyond while stimulating commercial activities and easing transportation burdens. The senator also praised the Honourable Minister of Works, Sen. (Engr.) David Nweze Umahi, for his dedication to delivering quality infrastructure nationwide, describes his hands-on approach as “truly commendable.” “As a representative of my people, I have made it my mission to expedite these critical projects, knowing their far-reaching benefits. Today’s progress is not just a personal achievement but a collective victory for our region,” Nwoko stated. He reaffirmed his commitment to collaborating with the administration on initiatives that uplift communities and drive sustainable development. “Once again, I extend my deepest gratitude, Your Excellency, for your leadership and unwavering dedication to national progress,” he concluded.
