...Says democracy without justice Is a broken promise

As Nigeria marks Democracy Day, Senator Natasha Akpoti Uduaghan has urged Nigerians to go beyond celebrating elections and demand a democracy that truly delivers justice, equity, inclusion, and national development.

In a powerful June 12 message, the Kogi Central lawmaker paid tribute to Chief Moshood Abiola and other heroes of Nigeria’s pro-democracy struggle, describing June 12 as “a symbol of the people’s enduring fight for freedom and representation.”

“June 12 is more than a date—it’s a reminder of the price paid for democracy,” she said. “Chief M.K.O. Abiola and countless other patriots stood tall in defense of the people’s will. We must honour that legacy by ensuring democracy works for all Nigerians.”

While acknowledging the nation’s democratic progress, Senator Natasha emphasized that true success lies in how governance transforms the lives of ordinary citizens. “Democracy must do more than elect—it must empower, protect rights, and uphold the dignity of all,” she declared.

Calling on women and youth to take their rightful place in nation-building, she urged active participation in civic life. “Your voice, your vote, your vigilance matter. Only through collective engagement can we reshape Nigeria into a nation that serves everyone—regardless of tribe, gender, or class.”

She reaffirmed her commitment to inclusive, transparent governance and encouraged citizens not to lose hope. “Let us build bridges, not walls. Together, we can turn the promise of democracy into the daily experience of every Nigerian,” she said.

“Happy Democracy Day, Nigeria. God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”
