Senate Condemns Killing of Soldiers in Delta, Backs Tinubu’s Decision on Perpetrators

The Senate has strongly condemned the brutal killing of 15 personnel of the Nigerian Army by armed groups during a peace mission to the Okuama Community in Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State.

The incident, which occurred on Thursday, March 14, 2024, has been described as a perfidious height of barbaric and heinous crime.

In response to the tragic event, the Senate, through its spokesperson Yemi Adaramodu, expressed deep sadness and extended its condolences to the families of the deceased soldiers.

The Senate also backed President Bola Tinubu’s decision to arrest the perpetrators and urged Nigerians to offer maximum cooperation, prayers, and support to the Nigerian Armed Forces during this challenging time.

The Senate leadership and all the Distinguished Senators of the 10th Senate condemned the attack and praised the courage of the departed military men who paid the ultimate price in service to the nation.

They also conveyed their deepest condolences to the Chief of Defence Staff, Chief of Army Staff, the Nigerian Army, officers and men of Operation Delta Safe, and the families of all the personnel who lost their lives.

In support of President Tinubu’s charge to the security authorities, the Senate urged them to identify and bring to justice the criminals responsible for this heinous act.

This incident highlights the need for greater cooperation and support for the Nigerian Armed Forces as they work to restore peace and stability in troubled locations throughout the country.
