Security Agents Uncover Bombs, Walkie-Talkies in Anambra Forests

Security agents in Anambra State have successfully recovered nine locally made Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) and four walkie-talkies while conducting a joint operation in the forests of Amiyi and Ochuche, Ogbaru local government area.

The operation, which lasted for several hours, aimed at targeting and neutralizing hoodlums responsible for recent attacks on security formations in the state.

The joint security team, comprising the Nigerian Army, Nigerian Navy, and the Nigerian Police Force, worked together to comb the forests and destroy the insurgents’ camps.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Tochukwu Ikenga, highlighted the significant support provided by the military in achieving the operation’s success.

In addition to the recovery of the IEDs and walkie-talkies, the Police Bomb Squad safely defused the devices.

The Commissioner of Police, Aderemi Adeoye, commended the military for its support and thanked other security agencies, including the Department of State Services (DSS), Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), and various vigilante groups for their cooperation in the fight against crime.

In the statement issued by the PPRO, Adeoye also addressed the issue of cult clashes in Awka, the state capital, which have led to fatalities.

He warned cultists that their activities would not be tolerated, emphasizing that security forces would not stand by and allow them to destabilize the state.

The joint operation in the forests of Anambra highlights the importance of collaboration among security agencies in combating insurgency and maintaining peace and security in the region.

It is expected that the successful operation will serve as a deterrent to other criminal elements and provide reassurance to the citizens of Anambra State.
