Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has issued a stern warning to the contractor handling the Bori Internal Roads project, who reportedly absconded with N4bn mobilization fund paid to him.
The governor visited the site on May 4, 2024, expressing his displeasure that the contractor had abandoned the project despite receiving over 80% of the agreed contractual payments.
Governor Fubara emphasized that the contractor must return to the site and complete the project or face severe consequences.
He mentioned that two payments, totaling over N6bn, had already been made for the project.
The governor expressed concern that the contractor was not showing interest in completing the project, which is located in his Senatorial District.
The governor was also disturbed by the contractor’s lack of action, as no men or equipment were present at the site despite the payments.
He recounted an incident where the contractor sacked his front desk officer for receiving a letter from the Ministry of Works requesting an update on the project.
Governor Fubara assured the residents of the area that the road would be completed, emphasizing that it is designed to serve his people and give them a sense of belonging.
He reassured the public that he would not abandon a project meant to benefit his constituents.
As the situation unfolds, the contractor has been given an ultimatum to return to the site and complete the Bori Internal Roads project, or face the consequences of his inaction.
