Rivers State Commissioner for Works Resigns Following Appointment by President Tinubu

The Rivers State Commissioner for Works, George-Kelly D. Alabo, has resigned from his position following his recent appointment by President Bola Tinubu as the Director-General of the Border Communities Development Agency (BCDA).

Alabo, in his resignation letter addressed to Governor Siminalayi Fubara, cited his appointment by President Tinubu as the reason for stepping down from his position.

The President has high expectations for the new Director-General, anticipating that he will discharge his duties with integrity, diligence, and dedication for the effective administration of the BCDA and the management of critical policies and programs in line with the objectives of the Renewed Hope Agenda for border communities development.

The former commissioner expressed gratitude to Governor Fubara for the opportunity to serve the people of Rivers State during his tenure. Alabo was one of the commissioners loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, who had resigned during the political crisis in the state in 2023.

However, he returned to his position after the intervention of President Tinubu in December 2023, where an eight-point resolution was signed at the Presidential Villa by Fubara, Wike, and other important parties to resolve the political impasse in the state.

As the new Director-General of the BCDA, Alabo will play a crucial role in driving the development and growth of Nigeria’s border communities, ensuring that the Renewed Hope Agenda is effectively implemented.

His appointment underscores the importance of collaboration between the federal and state governments in addressing the needs of the people and fostering unity in the country.

The resignation of Rivers State Commissioner for Works, George-Kelly D. Alabo, following his appointment by President Tinubu as the Director-General of the BCDA, marks a new chapter in the development of Nigeria’s border communities.

Alabo’s dedication to service and the President’s commitment to the Renewed Hope Agenda are expected to bring significant improvements to the lives of those living in border areas and contribute to the overall progress of the nation.
