Reps Call for Special Security Task Force to Combat Banditry in Niger Communities

The Nigerian House of Representatives has urged the establishment of a special joint security task force to address the growing threat of banditry, kidnapping, and other criminal activities in the Shiroro, Rafi, and Munya federal constituency of Niger State.
This call comes in response to a motion presented by Rep. Ismaila Musa Modibbo during a plenary session on May 9, 2024.
Rep. Modibbo highlighted the alarming frequency of attacks on communities in the region, resulting in casualties among civilians, military personnel, and vigilantes.
The attacks have also led to the displacement of residents from their homes, causing widespread fear and tension.
To combat this escalating threat, the House of Representatives emphasized the importance of a comprehensive security response, which includes the establishment of a special joint security task force.
This task force would be supported by air surveillance and ground troops, providing a more robust and coordinated effort to protect the affected communities.
The motion underscores the urgent need for action to address the growing insecurity in the region, which has been plagued by violence and instability.
The proposed security task force would work to enhance existing security measures and ensure the safety and well-being of residents in the affected areas.
As the Nigerian government and security agencies work to address this pressing issue, the establishment of a special joint security task force could serve as a crucial step in restoring peace and stability to the communities in Niger State.
