Hervé Renard has stepped down as Tunisia coach after steering the team through just two World Cup matches. The 57-year-old French tactician announced his departure on Instagram on Saturday, bringing his brief stint with the Eagles of Carthage to an end.

"My adventure with Tunisia has come to an end," Renard wrote on the social media platform. He thanked the Tunisian Football Federation for the opportunity to participate in the 2026 World Cup campaign.

Renard, who won the Africa Cup of Nations with both Zambia and Ivory Coast, took charge on June 16 to replace Sabri Lamouchi. Lamouchi had been dismissed following Tunisia's 5-1 hammering by Sweden in their opening group game.

The Frenchman's tenure proved unsuccessful, however. Tunisia lost 4-0 to Japan and then suffered a 3-1 defeat to the Netherlands in their final group encounters, resulting in early elimination.

"I came for this World Cup," Renard told AFP, stopping short of clarifying whether the federation had offered him a contract extension. He did not elaborate on his decision to leave the post.

Before joining Tunisia, Renard had been managing Saudi Arabia but was removed from his position less than two months before the tournament kicked off in North America.
