Presidential Spokesperson Slams NLC’s Protest Against Hunger as ‘Needless’

The Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, has criticized the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) for staging a nationwide protest against hunger and economic hardship, calling it “needless.”

The protests, which took place in major cities across Nigeria on Tuesday, were met with mixed reactions from other prominent figures and organizations.

Ngelale argued that the federal government has already started addressing the concerns of Nigerian families and is working to alleviate the economic hardships being faced by the people.

He pointed out that the fact that the Trade Union Congress (TUC) did not join the protest shows that it was unnecessary.

“Any labour union that is speaking to the concerns of Nigerian families, the pains that are being felt by our people, is absolutely free to do so,” he said.

“But we also want to separate the legitimate concerns being expressed by some of the labour unions from people trying to leverage some of the situations in the country to achieve a political agenda.”

The presidential spokesperson emphasized that the administration of President Bola Tinubu is tackling the issues raised by the unions and is working to alleviate the concerns of the Nigerian people.

Despite the criticism from the presidential spokesperson, the NLC’s two-day warning protest continues tomorrow.

As the situation unfolds, it remains to be seen how the government will address the concerns of the Nigerian people and whether the protests will lead to any significant changes in the country’s economic policies.
