"President Bola Tinubu has condemned the killing of military personnel in a Delta community and vowed that those responsible for the act will not go unpunished.

The incident occurred on Thursday, March 14, 2024, when 16 military personnel, including a commanding officer, two majors, one captain, and 12 soldiers, were murdered while on a rescue mission in the Okuama community of Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State.

The soldiers were deployed to the community to resolve a land dispute between the Okuama and Okoloba communities.

In response to the incident, President Tinubu expressed his grief and extended his condolences to the families of the fallen soldiers, their colleagues, and loved ones.

He emphasized that the military high command is already responding to the incident and that the offenders will face consequences for their actions.

President Tinubu highlighted the inherent dangers that servicemen and women face in their line of duty and praised the heroism, courage, and patriotism of the fallen soldiers.

He stressed that any attack on members of the armed forces is an attack on the nation itself and that his government will not accept this "wicked act."

The President has granted full authority to the Defence Headquarters and Chief of Defence Staff, Christopher General Musa, to ensure that those responsible for the killings are brought to justice.

He reaffirmed his commitment to achieving peace and tranquility in every part of Nigeria.
