President Tinubu Appoints Zubaida Umar as New NEMA DG: A Step Towards Gender Inclusion and Improved Emergency Management

President Bola Tinubu has recently approved the appointment of Mrs. Zubaida Umar as the Director-General of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA).

The announcement was made public by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Chief Ajuri Ngelale, in Abuja on Friday.

This appointment marks a significant step towards the President’s commitment to gender inclusion, as Mrs. Umar is the first woman to be appointed as Director-General of this pivotal agency.

With over 20 years of work experience in diverse fields such as Human Resources, and Finance and Administration, Mrs. Umar brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to her new role.

Mrs. Umar is a member of the Chartered Institute of Bankers and the Institute of Credit Administration.

She also holds ACCA certifications in public financial management and digital & sustainability financing, which will undoubtedly prove invaluable in her new position.

As Executive Director, Finance and Corporate Services at the Federal Mortgage Bank, Mrs. Umar played a crucial role in driving the strategy and repositioning of the bank, ultimately leading to its transformation into a modern, digitized mortgage and financial service provider.

President Tinubu expects that the new Director-General will bring much-needed financial and operational discipline to NEMA, and refashion the agency into a performance-driven and proactive emergency response provider, with a focus on prevention and climate change readiness in the execution of its core mandate.

The appointment of Mrs. Zubaida Umar as the new NEMA DG is a clear indication of President Tinubu’s commitment to gender inclusion and the improvement of emergency management in the country.

It is a step in the right direction, and it is hoped that her appointment will lead to positive changes and improved emergency management in Nigeria.
