Sunday Dare, the President's media adviser, has dismissed fears that the administration worries about Peter Obi. Speaking on Mic On Podcast, Dare insisted the government isn't threatened by the Labour Party's 2023 presidential candidate.
Obi may have posed challenges before, Dare noted. But he's no longer a concern for Tinubu's team, the official added.
"This government is not afraid of Peter Obi," Dare stated during the interview. He argued that both the opposition leader and the administration have equal rights to their positions.
Tinubu won't resign based on Obi's demands, he made clear. Citizens can only change leadership through elections every four years, Dare explained.
The presidential aide emphasized that Nigeria operates under a presidential system. Voters choose leaders for the presidency, senate, and house of representatives together.
Dare said Obi previously represented a genuine threat to the administration. Today, however, Tinubu's government stands on solid performance records.
"We stand on solid ground of performance," Dare told the podcast hosts. His words suggested the government's achievements speak louder than opposition criticism.
According to him, the administration can address the country's fundamental problems effectively. Obi lacks comparable solutions, the media adviser implied.
Dare predicted Obi couldn't defeat Tinubu in Lagos during future elections. His confidence reflected the administration's belief in its political strength.
The adviser's remarks came as the political opposition continues pressuring Tinubu. Critics want the president to address Nigeria's economic challenges more aggressively.
