Power Outage in Parts of Edo and Delta for Two Weeks Due to Essential TCN Maintenance

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) announced on Saturday that there would be a two-week power outage in parts of Edo and Delta states.
This temporary disruption, scheduled to start on May 4 and end on May 17, 2024, is required to allow for the safe erection of two 132kV transmission towers at the Amukpe substation.
The General Manager of Public Affairs at TCN, Ndidi Mbah, stated that this maintenance is crucial to ensure a more reliable power supply to the affected areas.
During this period, there will be no bulk power supply to Benin DisCo (BEDC) through the Adeje, industrial Woodland, Mosogar, Sapele, and Abraka feeders.
This means that residents in these areas will experience a power outage for the duration of the maintenance work.
The temporary power outage is necessary to create a safe working environment for the contractor to complete the projects.
Upon completion, these projects will establish N-1 redundancy, enabling TCN to supply bulk electricity to the substation from either the Benin or Ughelli transmission line.
This redundancy will ensure a more flexible and consistent power supply through the Amukpe transmission substation.
BEDC, responsible for the retail distribution of electricity in Delta, Edo, Ekiti, and Ondo States, covers a geographical area of 57,353 square kilometers.
The completion of these projects is expected to significantly improve the reliability and consistency of electricity supply in these regions.
The TCN has assured residents that this temporary inconvenience is necessary to ensure a more stable power supply in the long run.
In the meantime, residents and businesses are advised to make necessary arrangements to accommodate the power outage during this period.
