Police Withdraw Security Detail from Ex-Gov Yahaya Bello Amid N80bn Fraud Allegations

the Inspector General of Police, Olukayode Egbetokun, has ordered the immediate withdrawal of all police officers attached to former Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, following his declaration as wanted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in connection with an alleged N80 billion fraud.

This action was communicated through a police wireless message, emphasizing the importance of compliance and the withdrawal of security detail from the former governor.

Simultaneously, the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has placed Bello on a watch list, citing ongoing legal challenges and potential flight risk.

The NIS has also issued a directive that, if seen at any entry or exit point, he should be arrested and referred to the Director of Investigation or contact designated personnel for further action.

The internal security document issued by the NIS reveals that Bello is currently facing prosecution before the Federal High Court in Abuja on charges of conspiracy, breach of trust, and money laundering.

This move by the IG of Police and the actions of the NIS come amidst mounting legal pressure on the former governor, as he faces serious allegations of fraud and financial misconduct.

The withdrawal of his security detail and the watch list placement underscore the severity of the charges against him and the determination of law enforcement agencies to ensure accountability.

As the legal proceedings unfold, it remains to be seen how this case will impact Bello’s future and the broader fight against corruption in Nigeria.
