Police in Ekiti State have rescued worshippers abducted during an attack on Christ Apostolic Church in Eda-Oniyo community on April 28, 2026. One victim died in captivity before the rescue operation succeeded.

The Ekiti State Police Command coordinated with the military, Amotekun Corps, local hunters and government officials to free the hostages. SP Sunday Abutu, the police public relations officer, confirmed the successful operation in a statement released to journalists.

All rescued victims received immediate medical attention at hospitals to assess their health and provide treatment. Doctors examined each person to determine the extent of physical and psychological trauma suffered during captivity.

Commissioner of police Falade Adegoroye Michael praised the coordination between security agencies that made the rescue possible. He singled out Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji for the state government's backing, which he said strengthened the operation's success.

The commissioner thanked residents for their vigilance and intelligence gathering that helped police track the abductors. He said residents' timely tips proved crucial to locating the victims.

Police are intensifying efforts to track down and arrest those responsible for the kidnapping. The commissioner pledged the command's continued commitment to safeguarding lives and property across the state.

He urged the public to remain alert and report any suspicious individuals or activities to nearby police stations. The emergency line 08062335577 remains open for residents to report security threats.

The rescue marks another successful operation by Ekiti security forces against armed criminals operating in the region. Intelligence-led policing and inter-agency cooperation have increasingly helped authorities respond to kidnappings and violent crimes in recent months.
