The Bauchi State Police Command has recovered a stolen vehicle and arrested three suspects accused of operating a theft ring across Bauchi and Gombe states. SP Nafiu Habib, the police spokesperson, said the operation began on June 29, 2026, after a concerned citizen reported that criminals had stolen a green Opel Vectra, registration number AH 232 AKK, from Mr Muazu in Katsinawa Village along Jos Road.

Officers from the 'E' Division moved swiftly and intercepted the vehicle at Dorawan Dillalai, where they arrested one suspect and recovered the stolen car. The breakthrough triggered a larger investigation that stretched into neighbouring Gombe State.

Detectives from the Area Command travelled to Gombe and arrested two additional suspects, Abubakar Musa, 46, and Usman Abubakar, 30, as they allegedly tried to arrange the purchase of the stolen vehicle. All three men have admitted to the crimes, according to the police statement.

The suspects revealed they had carried out similar thefts before, investigators said. The police confirmed that the trio will face prosecution once the investigation concludes.

CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, Bauchi's Commissioner of Police, commended the swift action of his officers and the vigilant citizen who tipped them off. "We commend the prompt action of our operatives and the public-spirited individual whose timely information made the recovery possible," he told reporters.

The commissioner added that the police command remains focused on stamping out vehicle theft and related criminal activity across the state. He noted that collaboration between officers and residents would continue to drive success against such crimes.

The recovery marks a significant win for Bauchi's law enforcement as criminal gangs operating across state lines face mounting pressure from coordinated police operations.
