Police Present N1.6 Billion to Families of Deceased Officers in Nigeria

The Nigeria Police Force has recently disbursed a substantial sum of N1.6 billion to the families of deceased police personnel.

The financial aid, presented by the Inspector-General of Police, Olukayode Egbetokun, is a token of gratitude to honor the fallen heroes and their families.

The N1.6 billion represents the insurance claim for the deceased officers for the years 2018/2019, 2021/2022, and 2022/2023 under the Nigeria Police Force’s Group Life Assurance Policy. This disbursement marks the fifth occasion since Egbetokun assumed office in 2023.

The financial support was distributed across five distinct categories, reflecting the police force’s commitment to the beneficiaries.

The first category includes a sum of N55.8 million for 311 beneficiaries, representing the remaining 5% balance of the Group Life Assurance Policy payments for Batches 9 and 10 for the 2021/2022 insurance year.

The second category comprises cheques totaling N761.5 million for 178 beneficiaries, which covers 90% of the Group Life Assurance policy payments for Batches 15 and 17 for the 2021/2022 insurance year.

The third category is a single cheque of N567.5 million for 78 beneficiaries, representing 100% of the Group Life Assurance policy payment for Batch 9 of the 2022/2023 insurance year.

In the fourth group, cheques amounting to N96.9 million were distributed among 86 beneficiaries, which covers 32% of the total Group Life Assurance policy payment for Batch 5 during the insurance year of 2018/2019.

The fifth and final category includes a single cheque worth N113.2 million, covering the full amount owed to 149 beneficiaries, encompassing batches 6 and 7 for the policy year of 2022/2023.

The Inspector-General of Police emphasized the force’s steadfast commitment to the well-being of police personnel and their families, especially those who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.

This gesture underscores the current police leadership’s dedication to ensuring the welfare of both serving and fallen officers.

As the Nigeria Police Force continues to support the families of their fallen heroes, it serves as a reminder of the importance of honoring those who have given their lives in the service of their country.
