Police IG Meets Gov. Sani, Vows to Secure Release of 287 Abducted Students in Kaduna

In response to the recent abduction of 287 primary and secondary school students at Kuriga community in Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State, Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun met with Governor Uba Sani on Tuesday.

During the meeting, the IGP assured the governor that the Police High Command would adopt all available strategies, including kinetic and non-kinetic approaches, to rescue the victims.

He also mentioned that more mobile policemen and special forces would be deployed to the affected communities and other vulnerable areas in Kaduna to help combat banditry, kidnappings, and terrorism.

The abduction occurred last Thursday when bandits surrounded a school premises, taking 100 pupils from the primary school and 187 students from the secondary school.

A teacher from one of the schools, Sani Abdullahi, managed to escape and reported that the vigilante group, along with the KADVS, attempted to pursue the bandits but were unsuccessful.

One of the vigilantes was killed in the process.

After the incident, Governor Sani visited the community and assured the people of the safe and timely return of the kidnapped children.

He stated that security agencies were working round the clock to ensure their release.

The meeting between the Police IG and Governor Uba Sani highlights the commitment of the Nigerian government to address the growing concerns of security in the country and to protect its citizens from threats such as banditry, kidnappings, and terrorism.
