Osun State Police have ordered all political parties to halt activities in Oriade Local Government Area. The directive takes effect immediately and covers rallies, campaigns, and processions.
Security concerns prompted the decision, according to police intelligence reports. Commissioner of Police Aderemi Fasogbon recommended postponing all political events to a later date.
Accord Party had scheduled a rally in Ijebu-Jesa for Wednesday, June 10, 2026. The event reportedly triggered tension with the All Progressives Congress.
Police Public Relations Officer DSP Abiodun Ojelabi issued the advisory on Tuesday. He cited the need to prevent breaches of peace and protect public safety.
"The Commissioner of Police advises all political parties to postpone their planned political gatherings, rallies, campaigns, processions, and all other political-related activities," the statement read. It specifically mentioned June 10, 2026 as the affected date.
Osun police explained that dialogue with stakeholders had reached an impasse. Previous peace meetings between the commissioner and party leaders failed to resolve tensions.
All political actors must comply with the order, police said. Failure to do so may result in legal consequences.
According to the command, the suspension aims to safeguard lives and property. It represents a proactive measure to maintain law and order.
Residents have been urged to remain law-abiding during this period. Citizens must cooperate with security agencies deployed across the council area.
Police reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring a peaceful environment. They promised to continue engaging stakeholders toward lasting peace.
The advisory covers the entire Oriade Local Government Area. Enforcement begins immediately across all wards and communities.
