Plateau State Government Clamps Down on Illegal Developers Encroaching on Government Land

The Plateau State government has taken decisive action to curb the illegal encroachment of government land by developers.

This move comes as part of the government’s efforts to restore order and sanity to the state’s urban development, particularly in the city of Jos.

During a visit to the Old Legislative Quarters at the Bauchi Ring road in Jos, government officials, including the State Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development, Joshua Laven, the State Commissioner for Information and Communication, Musa Ashoms, and the General Manager of the Jos Metropolitan Development Board, Hart Bankat, discovered illegal construction work being carried out on government property.

Despite a notice issued last week to halt the work until the necessary approvals were obtained, the construction continued at an alarming pace.

This prompted the officials to take immediate action, warning that the full weight of the law would be brought down on the violators if they failed to comply with the government’s directives.

The Plateau State government is determined to ensure that all building activities adhere to the established regulations and guidelines.

This includes obtaining the appropriate titles from the Ministry of Lands and Survey before commencing any construction work.

The government is also committed to preserving public facilities and green spaces, which are essential for maintaining the beauty and livability of the state.

The officials have stressed that no one is above the law, and they are using this incident as a test case to send a strong message to all illegal developers that such activities will not be tolerated.

They have given the violators a final opportunity to comply with the government’s directives, failing which, the full legal process will be initiated against them.

This crackdown on illegal developers is a significant step towards ensuring that Plateau State’s urban development is carried out in a lawful and sustainable manner.

It is a clear indication that the government is committed to protecting public property and maintaining the integrity of the state’s urban landscape.
