Rep. Yusuf Gagdi has lost his bid for a third term in the National Assembly.
He failed to win the APC primary in his Plateau constituency.
Gagdi represents Pankshin/Kanke/Kanam Federal Constituency. He currently chairs the House Standing Committee on Navy.
Party members voted across three local government areas on Sunday. Results showed Gagdi came in second place by a wide margin.
Daspan Ishaya, who oversaw the election, announced the outcome in Pankshin. Dr John Tongshinen won with 29,968 votes, he disclosed.
Gagdi managed just 5,849 votes in the contest. The gap between the two candidates was significant.
"I hereby declare Mr John Tongshinen the winner of the APC primary," Ishaya announced. He said Tongshinen would fly the party's flag in the general election.
Officials from INEC monitored the voting process throughout. Their presence ensured transparency, according to Ishaya.
Tongshinen will now face opposition candidates in the 2025 general election. The outcome marks the end of Gagdi's time in the lower chamber.
