Peter Obi Urges Action to Avert Looming Hunger Crisis in Nigeria

The presidential candidate of the Labour Party, LP, Mr. Peter Obi, has called for urgent action to address the impending hunger crisis in Nigeria.

According to a UNICEF report, 31.5 million Nigerians are at risk of acute hunger and serious food insecurity between June and August 2024.

Obi expressed his concern about Nigeria’s ranking on the Global Hunger Index, where it is considered one of the 20 hungriest nations in the world.

He emphasized the need to shift the country’s focus from consumption to production, particularly in the agricultural sector.

With the high cost of living and inflation rate in Nigeria, many households are now spending almost all their income on food, leaving little for other essential expenses.

The rising hunger levels and the associated anger in the nation have become a pressing issue that must be addressed.

The former Anambra State governor also highlighted the challenges faced by farmers, such as insecurity and terror attacks, which hinder their agricultural activities.

He urged the government to provide adequate support and security to farmers, as well as to manage monetary policies in a way that positively impacts small businesses in the agricultural sector.

Peter Obi has called for immediate action to address the looming hunger crisis in Nigeria.

He believes that by investing in agriculture, increasing food production, and supporting farmers, the country can overcome this challenge and build a more productive and prosperous future for all Nigerians.
