Nigeria's Pentecostal Fellowship has called for a three-day prayer and fasting exercise. The spiritual initiative aims to seek divine intervention for the nation's peace and stability.
Sylvanus Ukafia, the PFN's national publicity secretary, made the announcement on Saturday in Abuja. He said the prayer program will run from Friday, May 22 to Sunday, May 24, 2026.
The dates align with Global Pentecost Day. According to Ukafia, the timing draws from biblical instruction in 2 Chronicles 7:14, which emphasizes humility, prayer, and repentance for national healing.
A PFN National Executive Council meeting on May 8 birthed the decision. Council members expressed deep concern over Nigeria's current trajectory during that session.
Insecurity remains widespread across communities and worship centers. Many Nigerians struggle with economic hardship while political tensions simmer ahead of upcoming elections.
The fellowship wants all Christian denominations to participate in this prayer effort. Church leaders, pastors, youth, women, and believers nationwide have been asked to join.
Friday and Saturday will focus on home and church-based prayers. Believers are encouraged to fast and intercede within their local assemblies during these two days.
Sunday's activities will be different and more coordinated nationwide. State-level PFN executives will organize designated venues where Christians gather for a united national prayer assembly.
Prayer topics have been clearly outlined by the fellowship. These include ending violence, terrorism, and criminal activities plaguing the nation.
Economic recovery ranks high on the prayer agenda. Citizens also need to intercede for relief of those suffering from hardship.
Leadership quality matters too, according to the PFN guidelines. Believers should pray for wise, just, and united leaders to emerge from the political process.
Election-related prayers focus on peaceful and credible processes. The fellowship wants violence-free elections that produce God-fearing, patriotic leaders for Nigeria.
Church revival and spiritual awakening are included in the prayer focus. National unity and restoration of broken social fabric also feature prominently.
Ukafia expressed confidence in Nigeria's future despite current challenges. He noted that sincere repentance and unity through prayer can unlock the nation's potential.
In his words, "God will grant healing, restoration, and national renewal" through the church's united intercession. The PFN believes this crucial moment demands Christian solidarity and faith.
All Nigerians, not just Christians, are encouraged to participate. Ukafia called for collective commitment rooted in love and patriotic duty toward the nation's future.
"As the Church unites in prayer, God will intervene in our nation's affairs," the publicity secretary stated confidently. He maintained that peace, healing, and renewed hope await Nigeria through divine action.
Pastor leaders and Christian organizations across the country have been urged to mobilize their members. Their cooperation will be vital to making this three-day exercise truly nationwide in scope and impact.
