PDP State House of Assembly Candidates Forum Calls for Acting Chairman Damagum’s Resignation

The Peoples Democratic Party State House of Assembly Candidates Forum (PDP-SHACF) has urged the PDP Acting National Chairman, Ambassador Ilia Damagum, to resign from his position.

The forum, consisting of former State House of Assembly candidates affiliated with the PDP, emphasized the need for a substantive Chairman from the North Central region, in accordance with the party’s constitution.

A statement issued by the forum’s National Chairman, Hon. Salaudeen Lukman, and co-signed by other members, highlighted the ongoing crisis within the PDP, attributing it to the National Working Committee’s (NWC) failure to respond to early warning signals.

The forum expressed deep concern over the handling of crises and called for decisive measures to reposition the party.

The statement pointed out that despite their patient waiting, the NWC has taken no substantial action, necessitating the forum to take additional steps in accordance with their resolutions reached during a meeting on April 9, 2024.

The forum reminded the public that those members of the party who are currently causing conflict have benefited greatly from the party’s agenda in their political careers.

Furthermore, the forum alleged anti-party activities in various states, including Rivers, Lagos, and Benue, among others.

They stressed that some PDP members and supporters openly support opposition parties, which they believe is contributing to the perpetuation of the leadership crisis.

This development comes on the heels of last week’s demand by some members of the PDP in the House of Representatives for Damagum’s immediate resignation, accusing him of anti-party activities and demanding his replacement with someone from the North Central in accordance with the party’s constitution.

As the PDP continues to grapple with internal conflicts, the forum’s call for the resignation of the Acting National Chairman is indicative of the growing discontent within the party.

The situation remains fluid, and it remains to be seen whether the party will be able to resolve its internal crises and move forward with a unified front.
