PDP Focuses on Reconciliation with Wike and Others, Says Bode George

Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain Olabode George has emphasized that the Party is working on reconciling its members, including the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and other aggrieved members, rather than “firing” them.

Speaking against the backdrop of Wike’s attendance at a PDP National Executive Council (NEC) meeting despite serving under the All Progressives Congress (APC) government, George highlighted the efforts being made to settle the rift created during the 2023 general election.

George made these comments during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Thursday, stating, “There is a standing committee.

They are going to add more members to do a post-mortem analysis.” He further stressed the importance of moving on as a party, saying, “We don’t want to start firing because there are one or two people that are still thinking about the past.”

The rift in the PDP was largely due to the actions of Nyesom Wike and his G-5 group during the 2023 presidential election.

The group chose to support other presidential candidates, rather than the PDP’s candidate, Atiku Abubakar.

This decision led to a divide within the Party and ultimately resulted in the removal of former National Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu.

Despite the challenges faced, George remains optimistic about the Party’s ability to resolve its internal issues and move forward.

He emphasized the need for the PDP to settle its own matters “like a family,” stating, “We are going to settle our own matters like a family.”

As the PDP continues its efforts to reconcile with its members and heal from the divisions of the past election, it remains to be seen how the Party will navigate this period of transition and build unity among its members.
