PCN Urges Students to Seek Admission in Accredited Institutions for Pharmacy Education

The Pharmacy Council of Nigeria (PCN) has advised Nigerian students to be cautious when seeking admission for pharmacy education and to ensure that they only pursue degrees from institutions that have been officially accredited by the PCN.

The PCN Registrar, Pharmacist Ibrahim Babashehu, represented by the Southwest Coordinator, Pharmacist Adenike Ogunlola, made this announcement during the induction/convocation ceremony of Pharmacy Technician and Public Health Technician at Mercy College of Health Sciences and Technology in Iwo, Osun State.

Babashehu emphasized the importance of confirming the accreditation status of foreign institutions before accepting admission.

He warned students against seeking degrees from neighboring West African countries like Benin Republic, Togo, and Cameroon, as such pursuits may lead to wasted time and resources.

“The PCN is aware that a good number of Pharmacy Technicians seek further education in foreign countries.

The PCN has nothing against such, in fact, the PCN supports that. However, this must be done in PCN approved institutions,” said Babashehu.

The PCN encourages students to verify the status of foreign institutions by contacting the PCN website or offices for the most accurate and up-to-date information.

Professor Ajibade Lawal, the chairman of the induction ceremony, highlighted the importance of courage in medical courses, as it helps students avoid unethical practices that could tarnish the reputation of both the institution and the professional body.

The PCN’s message to students is clear: always check the accreditation status of the institutions they wish to attend to ensure they receive a high-quality education that meets the standards of the Pharmacy Council of Nigeria.
