Wife of Ekiti State Governor,  Dr Yemi Oyebanji, on Tuesday, tasked relevant stakeholders to play active roles in combating the menace of Gender Based Violence (GBV) in the state.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Oyebanji gave  the charge in Ado-Ekiti at the opening of a workshop for GBV Responders.
She said that GBV had remained a global concern because of its effect on peaceful coexistence of people.
Oyebaji described GBV as the most pervasive violation of human rights and one of the greatest threat to lasting peace and development.
” Violence against Women and children in particular has tremendous negative impact on communities and the nations at large.
“Consequently, for  an effective response to it, different sectors in the society must work in collaboration,” she said.
The wife of the Ekiti governor, however,  assured that there would be relentless effort at ensuring training and retraining of relevant GBV Responders in the state.
Oyebanji solicited the support of the participants at the workshop, who were mostly traditional rulers, in the fight against the scourge of GBV in the state.
Also, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Women Affairs and social Development, Mrs Sola Adeluyi, appealed to the royal fathers to work to eliminate incidence of GBV in their domains.
She urged them to do away with social norms and traditions that are detrimental, harmful and inimical to the wellbeing of the society.
Earlier, the Chairman, Traditional  Council of Obas in Ekiti State and Onisan of Isan Ekiti, Oba Gabriel Adejuwon, said that the traditional rulers would continue to cooperate with government to combat GBV in the society.
