Bola Oyebamiji, the All Progressives Congress candidate for the August 15 Osun State governorship election, has kicked off distribution of 500 solar-powered street lights in Iwo. His wife, Dr.
Sekinat Oyebamiji, represented him at Wednesday's launch of the "Light Up Osun" initiative.
The project aims to boost security, drive economic activities and light up rural communities across the state, Dr. Oyebamiji told those gathered.
She explained that Iwo serves as the pilot location before the initiative spreads to other towns and communities in Osun.
Remi Omowaiye, head of media and publicity for the APC campaign council, described the scheme as the first phase of a wider rural electrification drive. He noted that solar lights and poles have already been sourced and are ready for installation in villages and rural areas.
"This is a pilot scheme targeted at rural areas," Omowaiye said. "In the first phase, we are installing about 500 solar lights as part of our plan for the implementation of the Electricity Act and to improve electricity access across the state."
According to him, the project supports Oyebamiji's broader plan to implement the Electricity Act in Osun and ensure more residents get access to sustainable power. Omowaiye added that Oyebamiji has personally funded the entire project and ordered immediate commencement of installations.
The initiative reflects Oyebamiji's commitment to grassroots development and better living standards for rural residents, his wife noted during the event.
