Osun: Ife Group Accuses Modakeke of Attacks, MTT Denies Allegations

The Ife Intellectuals, a group in the town of Ife in Osun State, accused the people of Modakeke of attacking villages, killing residents, and taking over 100 villages.

The group’s chairman, Ademuyiwa Adeniran, detailed the alleged instances of violence and aggression against the Ife people by Modakeke bandits.

The accusations include the sacking of some Ife village heads and the murder of Chief Adesoji Adedire of Wanisanni village and two others, with two more persons missing.

The group called on the Inspector-General of Police to investigate and arrest the perpetrators of these alleged crimes.

Reacting to the accusations, the Modakeke Think Tank (MTT) under the chairmanship of Kola Olabisi denied the allegations, describing them as false and a deliberate attempt to disrupt the peace between the two communities.

Olabisi urged the state Commissioner of Police to work closely with the state government to investigate the allegations, arrest and prosecute those responsible, and maintain peace in the region.

Olabisi also appealed to those seeking to cause disharmony in the communities to focus on more productive endeavors, as the promotion of peace is essential for the development and prosperity of Ifeland.

The accusations and counter-denials have raised concerns about the security situation in the region, with both groups calling for peace and unity.

The situation remains tense as authorities work to resolve the issue and prevent further escalation of violence.
