A video circulating online shows an APC chieftain from Osun making alarming threats about the 2027 election. Olubunmi Obeisun, chairman of Oriade Local Government Area, sparked fury with his comments.
Obeisun spoke during an APC meeting in Obokun-Oriade on Saturday. He accused Ijebu-Jesa residents of opposing the party's interests.
In the video, he vowed to manipulate results if his preferred candidates lost. "If they win, I will rig it," Obeisun stated in Yoruba, according to the recording.
Federal lawmaker Wole Oke, who's held the seat for 24 years, shared the video on Facebook. Oke has been close to Obeisun for years.
Opposition politicians erupted in response to the statement. Pelumi Olajengbesi, an Accord Party figure, condemned it as reckless and criminal.
Olajengbesi also serves as spokesman for Governor Ademola Adeleke's campaign council. He described Obeisun's remarks as a direct assault on Nigerian democracy.
According to him, the comments amount to intimidation of voters ahead of the general election. He called for immediate investigations by security agencies.
Constituents are growing restless after Oke's lengthy tenure in the National Assembly. Many want fresh voices representing them, Olajengbesi noted.
He warned residents would resist any attempt to impose candidates through force or ballot manipulation. Political tension now grips the federal constituency.
The video has reignited debates about electoral integrity in Nigeria. Election observers worry openly about threats to the 2027 polls.
