Ondo State has ordered the temporary shutdown of several public schools ahead of the APC Assembly election on May 20, 2026.

According to the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, these institutions will serve as polling stations across all 18 local government areas.

Officials say the closure is meant to protect students, teachers, and school workers during voting. "All learners, teachers, and other staff in the affected schools are hereby directed to stay at home on the election day," the ministry stated.

Security and orderly conduct of the poll within school premises drove the decision, authorities explained. Heads of affected schools will receive direct contact from officials to ensure compliance.

Zonal and Area Education Offices will monitor enforcement across local government areas. Their role is to support implementation of the directive.

Parents and WAEC-SSCE exam candidates need not worry, the government assured. Adequate measures exist to allow examinations to continue in affected schools safely.

Students in boarding facilities won't face safety compromises, officials noted. Classes will resume fully on Thursday, May 21, 2026, the day after the election.
