Ondo Gubernatorial Race: APC Releases Timetable, Pegs Forms at N50 Million

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has released its timetable for the Ondo gubernatorial election scheduled for November 16, 2024, and has announced that the price for the Expression of Interest and Nomination forms for the election is set at N10 million and N40 million, respectively.

The party’s National Organising Secretary, Sulaimon Argungu, made this announcement in a statement on Monday, and the timetable indicates that the sale of nominations, expression of interest, and delegates forms for contestants will begin on April 3 and end on April 10, 2024.

The primary election is slated for April 25, 2024.

As part of the party’s commitment to inclusivity, female aspirants and persons living with disabilities are to pay for the Expression of Interest form only, while the Nomination Form is free. Additionally, youths aged 25 to 40 are eligible for a 50% discount on the Nomination Form.

The Ondo gubernatorial race is set to be a fierce contest, with several prominent APC members vying for the party’s ticket.

Among the leading contenders are Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, former Commissioner for Finance in the state, Wale Akinterinwa, and Senator representing Ondo South, Jimoh Ibrahim.

The Ondo and Edo gubernatorial elections are two of the eight off-season elections in Nigeria, which are held due to litigations and court judgements.

The other states with off-season elections are Anambra, Bayelsa, Ekiti, Imo, Kogi, and Osun.

The APC’s release of the timetable and the announcement of the forms’ cost signals the beginning of the party’s preparations for the Ondo gubernatorial election, and the party’s commitment to a fair and inclusive selection process.
