Ondo Election: Jimoh Ibrahim Confident in Challenging Aiyedatiwa for APC Ticket

In the lead up to the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary for the Ondo State Governorship Election on November 16, 2024, Senator Jimoh Ibrahim has expressed his confidence in challenging the incumbent Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, for the party’s ticket.

In a recent interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today program, Ibrahim, who represents Ondo South Senatorial District, emphasized the importance of a fair and open contest for the ticket, stating that he is not afraid of the incumbent.

Ibrahim, a Harvard-educated businessman and politician, argued that democracy is about democratisation and the competition of ideas, and that the party must throw open its ticket to all qualified candidates.

He believes that his knowledge and strategy, coupled with his experience in mobilizing support for past candidates such as Olusegun Mimiko and the late Akeredolu, make him a strong contender for the governorship.

Aiyedatiwa, who formally declared his governorship bid on Tuesday, has garnered significant support from the people and party faithfuls of Ondo State.

He was sworn-in as the Governor on December 27, 2023, after the unfortunate demise of the former Governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu.

Aiyedatiwa has stated that it was the wish of the late Akeredolu that he (Aiyedatiwa) succeeded him as the governor of the state.

Despite the support for Aiyedatiwa, Jimoh Ibrahim remains undeterred and is determined to present himself as a viable alternative for the APC governorship ticket.

He believes that the party and the people of Ondo State will benefit from a healthy competition and a robust debate of ideas during the primary election.

The outcome of the APC primary will undoubtedly shape the political landscape of Ondo State as the state prepares for the November 16, 2024, gubernatorial election.

The contest between Aiyedatiwa and Ibrahim promises to be a captivating and closely watched event in the Nigerian political arena.
